Nokia goes for Tom Tom’s throat?

Following the release of the N95, Nokia states satellite navigation will be added to almost every phone in the line according to Kai Oistamo, head of Nokia’s Mobile Phones.
“I believe it (GPS) will quickly go through almost the whole of our portfolio,” Kai Oistamo, head of Nokia’s Mobile Phones unit, told a recent news conference.

This will mean major changes in the booming sat-nav market, as most have cell phones but no where near do most have navigation devices. Until Nokia has their way.

The power of carrying around a phone, the internet and now a navigation device is going to be the next big thing.

Other phone manufacturers are following suit, for example, Blackberry has had GPS built into their untils like the 7520 and 8800 series. The iPhone is supposed to have mapping, but no GPS as of yet.

How will the sat nav market respond to this major threat? I suspect they’ll try to bring their brand to the phone, highlighting their POI (points of interest) that they trade on…But the end of the road (no pun intended) may be near for some.
