Dream: ON iPhone app to bring you blissful dreams

Wish to enjoy some blissful dreams tonight? A superb iPhone app called the Dream: ON will help you enjoy some perfect reveries. Dream: ON is an effort by professor Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire, Britain, to see whether pleasant soundscapes could influence one’s dreams. The app just checks users sleep patterns to identify when they slip to REM sleep and play preferred soundscapes to influence dreams, says Wiseman.

Studies have shown that most dreams occur during REM sleep. Your mind will be alert to other senses while you dream and so the soundscapes from your iPhone will naturally boost your dreams. Dream: ON plays the soundscape you have selected before going to bed. The soundtrack will keep your mind ready for dreaming and they will occur as you expected. But the app's developer warns that everyone won't have similar dreams. And so Dream: ON may not be effective for all and it may turn effective for many with few days' practice.
To run the Dream: ON, you are required to choose a particular soundscape from a preloaded list that includes a peaceful garden, ocean and others. It is to predetermine the mood of your dream in the night. After setting all the options, you should place your iPhone face down on the bed. The app will observe your movements during sleep and instigate dreams in you. Soon after, the app will begin to play the specific soundscape, which will lead you to a perfect dream. We have created a new way of carrying out mass participation experiments. We still know relatively little about the science of dreaming and this app may provide a real breakthrough in changing how we dream, and record and track those dreams.
 Apart from helping you have perfect dreams, the app has a fully functional smart alarm, which will let users wake up with a fresh mind. The alarm gently produces voice to wake you up at an optimum moment. Moreover, it has a functionality to record your dreams and sleeping patterns as graphs. In the morning, the app will show a graphical pattern of your sleep movements.
The app also has an option to help you instantly share your dreams and sleeping patterns with friends on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. The researcher behind Dream: ON is also working to develop a Dream Bank, a social platform where users can share their dreams and read the dreams of their friends. Of course, Dream: ON might be the world's biggest dream experiment ever.

O2 launches My O2 iPhone Application

O2 has today announced My O2 for iPhone, an app designed to help make viewing the amount customers spend their phones even easier. The app is now available as a free download on the Apple App Store.

The My O2 section of O2’s website gives comprehensive information on every part of a customer’s account and could already be accessed via SMS and online, however the new My O2 app takes this information and makes it available in a way specifically tailored for the iPhone.

Using the My O2 app, both O2 Pay & Go and Pay Monthly iPhone customers will be able to securely see their tariff details, a summary of their inclusive allowance and how much remains, their latest bill and any Bolt Ons on their account.

“Our customers want to stay in control of how much they spend whenever they like. The My O2 iPhone app allows them to do this with the minimum of fuss,” said Sally Cowdry, Marketing Director for O2. “We wanted to make this information as easy to view as possible. This is all part of our commitment to a great customer experience and we’ll be looking at rolling this out to other phones in the near future.”

Apple iPhone to get 'Copy & Paste' feature

Two major flaws with the Apple iPhone are its crappy camera and the unavailability of the “Copy & Paste” feature. The latest news in the air is that Citrix is developing a receiver for the iPhone that will bring numerous Windows apps and developers to the iPhone. The Citrix Receiver for iPhone is said to be a remote screen software that hooks to a PC and makes you feel like you are running Microsoft’s OS, including copy and paste functionality. Some features that Citrix is currently eyeing include websites that require flash, medical apps, web apps that need IE and Cut & paste (within Citrix sessions). This will be the very first application that will be supported by a reputed company.

I feel like I have been writing about iPhone applications since ages. We have a new application for the iPhone every third day and the latest is the LED Football 2 by Mark Helmuth. With this iPhone application, the lovers of electronic football will be able to enjoy a range of features, including running, kicking, punts, field goals and the old standby, passing. It can even emulate the slow accumulation of wear on the plastic buttons. That’s really amazing. The power is at your fingertips to bring the defense to its knees. Solar powered iPhone case is partly eco-friendly!

While Apple will take its time to come up with a solar powered iPhone, a firm called Solar Arcadia has come up with a solar powered casing for your iPhone. This eco-friendly iPhone case is basically a lithium ion battery pack with a solar panel that doubles as a flip cover for the iPhone. This is a real green idea, except for the fact that the case is made of leather. Anyway, this solar case features an LED status indicator. They claim that an empty iPhone battery can be recharged in 3 hours when the included Li-Ion battery pack is full. When the battery pack is empty, you can get your iPhone recharged directly from the power of the Sun itself. Palm Pre (via Sprint) stands confident to outsmart iPhone and the likes

You definitely need a second thought if you think iPhone is the most sophisticated mobile phone on hand. Did you say HTC Touch? Not even this one! Instead, Palm stands a great chance to provide these supposed techie-gadgets a sturdy contest for sure at CES ’09. Well, Sprint alliance enables Palm to introduce its new lustrous Smartphone dubbed as Pre. It has a wholly new interface and Palm WebOS makes it exemplar hardware sculpt.

Magnetic mount lenses improve mobile phone’s camera; Work with the iPhone, too!

Here’s an interesting accessory for anyone who’s not satisfied with his/her mobile phone’s camera. Thanks to the magnetic mount lenses, you can improve your phone’s camera functionality by adding any of the three lenses available: Wide Angle Lens, Fish Eye Lens or Marco Lens.

These lenses can be simply attached to the back of the phone (yap, it works with the iPhone as well) without making the device look too bulky. The exception is the iPhone 3G, which, because of its plastic back needs a self-adhesive ring with a magnet affixed to the area around the camera. That’s also provided in the box, along with lenses and a keychain strap. Best of all, the magnetic lenses cost only $17 and can also work with some notebook computers and digital cameras. New iPhone Design Concept from Matt Brady and Jesus Diaz: iClamshell Anyone?

I’ve got another new iPhone concept for you today! Last week we all took a look at the iPhone Pro and iPhone Elite concepts, both of these having a slider form factor that some loved, and others hated. I had to admit both concepts made me a bit giddy. This new one has me smiling as well.
The new concept (as designed by Matt Brady, with some retouching by Jesus Diaz of Giz) is another offering for us to ponder… And yes, these are the same 2 designers that were responsible for the iPhone Pro/Elite mockups. Great work guys! This new design concept looks to be a clamshell (er, ‘iClamshell’?) that would allow the iPhone user to ‘add on’ different accessories. In this case, a snap-on keyboard. Interesting. This would certainly open up the door for Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) and a lot of 3rd party accessory manufacturers to go nuts with add-ons for the device.
But enough about that, what the heck do you think of this concept? Would it fly? Is it something you’d be interested in? Or does it look just plain terrible to you? Tell me what you think in the comments.
One thing is for certain… These concepts are great, and they certainly get you thinking about what you want in your next gen iPhone… But the real important thing is what does Apple think you want in your next gen iPhone!? Nikon goes iPhone by releasing myPicturetown app

If Kodak can do it, so can Nikon. Recently, the Japanese company has released its own iPhone application called myPicturetown to allow users of their photo storing/sharing service to access the site while on-the-go from their iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

Naturally, it’s not only browsing and sharing of photos myPicturetown users can do from their iPhones. The application also enables photo upload right from the iPhone/iPod Touch, without connecting the device to a computer. In addition, photos from the user’s myPicturetown library can be rotated and moved around using iPhone and/or iPod Touch’s touchscreen.

Colorware's Stealth iPhone looks mean, yet fails to deliver 3G speeds

Damn Colorware and their awesome painting jobs. For a second I thought this is the long-awaited bad-ass 3G iPhone. It's all black, looks so mean and comes with a matching earphones and iPhone dock. But no, they just made it look like that, without changing anything in terms of specs. Not that we expected Colorware to do so — it's not their business after all — however we haven't expected them to release a product that could clearly resemble the 2nd-gen iPhone. That's so mean from them.

The Stealth iPhone rocks and is priced accordingly. In order to have the meanest looking iPhone in the block, prepare to pour out $675 for 8GB, or $775 for 16GB model. That's a lot…

iPhone compatible speaker clock radio

Designed for bedrooms, studio apartments or college dorm rooms, Sony is unveiling its latest clock radio with a dock for Apple iPod and Apple iPhone. Sony is one of the first companies to launch an Apple iPhone compatible speaker clock radio. It features a wireless remote with full access to the iPod and iPhone devices’ menus (the Apple iPhone handset must be in iPod mode), as well as to alarm clock’s radio tuning and volume functions. It also charges the Apple iPhone while docked.

Hands-on with the Samsung Instinct - Sprint's answer to the iPhone

Everyone wants needs an iPhone competitor. In a market flooded with notions that sleek and slim smartphones with a rock-solid and intuitive interfaces are the way to go, no carrier can afford to ignore the touchscreen craze that's sweeping the mobile space.

And, Sprint has just announced their own attempt to woo the touchscreen crowd with the Samsung Instinct.

Sprint's Samsung Instinct wasn't available at Sprint nor Samsung's booth for some reason. I had to wait until an evening-event to get my hands on the Samsung Instinct, where Sprint had a handful of reps ready to showcase the new Sprint touchscreen handset.

Packed with a 2 megapixel camera, GPS, FM radio, EVDO Rev. A (the first Rev. A device on Sprint, according to the Sprint rep), 3-inch touchscreen (pressure-based and flush with the face of the device), and microSD card slot, the slim touchscreen offering from Samsung should help Sprint regain (or at least retain) some of its lost customer base. The Samsung Sprint measures a svelte 2.17 x 4.57 x 0.49 inches and tips the scales at a rather solid-feeling but still light 4.4 ounces.

The Samsung Instinct looks and feels much like the Samsung F700 Croix/U940 Glyde, without the sliding keyboard (of course) and without the award-winning Croix interface. The haptic feedback on the Samsung Instinct is the same pseudo-haptic feedback system that Samsung likes to use on their touchscreen handsets - the entire device vibrates with every touchscreen input. The vibration feedback novel at first, but then gets annoying quite quickly.

Overall, the pressure-based touchscreen was nice and firm - there was very little touchscreen "squish." The display's flush design helps to keep the Samsung Instinct's lines clean and smooth, and the LED backlit navigation buttons added a bit of flair to the device. As an iPhone competitor, this is probably as good as it's going to get for now (on Sprint). Capacitance touchscreen technology would have made the Samsung Instinct a little snazzier, and the UI could use some refinement. But in the end, if you want to get in on the full-body touchscreen craze, and you want to stay with Sprint, the Samsung Instinct is probably your best bet.

Booth reps said that the Samsung Instinct should be launching in June at a price point that is sure "to surprise" us all. I'd put money on the Sprint Samsung Instinct commanding a mid-$200 price tag with new contract.

T-Mobile Sells 8 GB iPhone for 99 Euros

…but don’t rush to buy it. According to Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile website, Apple’s iPhone, the 8GB version, will be sold for 99 euros as a part of a promotion that runs from April 7 to April 30. Through this promotion T-Mobile hopes to win new customers, but in order to obtain this price they will have to sign up for a two year contract that offers an 89 euros monthly plan.

Additionally, T-Mobile offers three other contracts: Complete S under which iPhone costs 249 while the monthly price is 29 euros, Complete M, through which the consumers could buy the iPhone 199 euros and a monthly price of 49 euros, and Complete L, with the iPhone priced at 149 euros and a 69 euros monthly price.
Meanwhile the price of the 16 GB version will remain unchanged, and the phone will be sold for 499 euros.

Financial Times Deutschland is speculating that T-Mobile’s move could be explained by two hypotheses. On one hand, it could be a sign that a new model, the 3G iPhone, is underway, but on the other hand, it might be due to the poor sales of the iPhone.

Financial Times reports that Deutsche Telekom declined to comment about the reasons behind the offer, but the financial newspaper noted that according to a statement released by T-Mobile in late January only 70,000 units have been sold since the launch of iPhone in Germany in November 2007.

John Carmack says id is looking to develop games for the iPhone

It’s almost amusing how things work out sometimes. People have been trying to get Apple to work with developers to put games on their systems, and to date there is still a huge shortage of available games. However, hope is on the horizon for people wanting to play games on an Apple product, the ironic thing is that the platform isn’t OSX, but rather the iPhone/iPod Touch. John Carmack has added id to the list of companies committing themselves to the platform.

I’ve only had my iPod Touch for a week or so (can you say late adopter?) and I can already imagine it as being one kick-ass gaming platform. While there aren’t exactly a lot of buttons to be found, I can still see massive potential for games of all different types. Apple really got things right with their whole iTunes distribution strategy. This was one of the things John Carmack noted when discussing id’s plans to develop games for the iPhone.

The ability to distribute larger applications than the over-the-air limits and effectively market your title with more than a dozen character deck name, combined with the reasonable income split make this look like a very interesting market.

Kevin Rose says 3G iPhone will do 3G video chat with iChat

Kevin Rose, Digg founder and Apple hardware prognosticator, just threw more fuel on 3G iPhone rumor-flames everywhere. It seems that having founded the uber-popular social-networking news site give Kevin Rose an inside line on some iPhone rumors.

Rose previously speculated on the iPhone's initial release, citing sources that indicated the iPhone would launch with two battery compartments, slide-out keyboard, and both GSM and CDMA versions. All his predictions failed to materialize - but then again, that's how the rumor-game goes.



Rose's most recent sources point to the 3G iPhone rocking true-blue, two-way video chat over AT&T's now-expanding 3G network. He says that the 3G iPhone will use a dual-camera setup (one camera on the rear for picture-taking duty and a front-facing cam under the multi-touch display glass) to get jiggy with video calls. Futhermore, the Digg founder claims that Apple is restricting third-party iPhone applications from running in the background in order to squash any potential competition to its iChat application - through which the iPhone is said to deliver its video chat goodness.

We'll just have to wait and see. It's looking like the 3G iPhone could be launching in a few months, so the wait may not be that long…
