By Daniel Lim

Building on its heritage of delivering inspirational design with powerful functionality, Samsung unveiled 3G additions to its highly popular Ultra Edition range of phones. Encased in amazingly slim frames, the Samsung Ultra Edition 3G range allows users to enjoy the full benefits of 3G with ease and style like never before.

The Ultra Edition 3G range was built upon Samsung's signature inspirational designs - the stylish slider, sophisticated clamshell and classic candy bar. Each design has been enhanced further and empowers the user to fully experience all the content and applications that are currently available on 3G and HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) networks.

"The launch of Samsung's latest Ultra Edition 3G handsets has broken down the barrier of delivering great 3G handsets that combine the best design and feature functionalities," said Mr. Ng Long Shyang, Director, Sales & Marketing, Telecommunications & IT Products, SET Division, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd.

He added, "With the amazing speed of 3G and HSDPA technology, using 3G phones is definitely the most popular trend now - and Samsung is at the forefront of this emerging revolution. With our expertise in 3.5G technology, we are already leading the HSDPA phone market with our innovative HSDPA handsets."

At the helm of the Ultra Edition 3G series is the Ultra Edition 13.8 (Z720), the world's first and thinnest HSDPA slim slider. Measuring just 13.8mm thin, this technology powerhouse features robust multimedia functions including a 3-megapixel auto focus camera, a second VGA camera with 3x zoom and video recording capabilities. The sizeable 2.1 inch QVGA display allows users to view images and documents with ease. The Ultra Edition 13.8 also has business features such as Document Viewer, voice memo functions and PIM capabilities to help even the busiest executive stay on top of their workload.

With an ultra slim frame of only 8.4 mm and a mere weight of 71 grams, the Ultra Edition 8.4 (Z370) is the world's slimmest 3G handset, a standard all future 3G handsets will be measured against. This handset houses a large landscape 1.93 inch TFT display with dual 2-megapixel and VGA cameras, making it the perfect device for those who love 3G video calls or the occasional self portraits. Capable of playing music in different audio formats and equipped with a range of JAVA-enabled games, this candy bar handset is ideal for the multimedia entertainment lover. In particular, the Ultra Edition 8.4 serves as a perfect music companion with Bluetooth headset music streaming capability and expandable memory microSD support of up to 2GB, turning your mobile phone into a portable library for work and entertainment.

Completing the collection is the distinctive Ultra Edition 11.8 (Z620), the world's slimmest HSDPA clamshell phone. Packed with astounding entertainment functionality, this stylish device fits into a profile of just 11.8mm and exudes minimalism. Key features include an embedded rotating 2 megapixel camera with 3X zoom that is capable of taking photos from all directions. It also doubles up as a video camera for video calls and is able to take up to an hour of QVGA recording. Coupled with a 2.3 inch QVGA display, this handset is most ideal for viewing multimedia content while on the move.

The Ultra Edition 8.4 will be available from mid December 2006 at a recommended retail price of $498 with a two year contract or $598 without a contract.

The Ultra Edition 13.8 will be available by February 2007, pricing to be confirmed. Availability of the Ultra Edition 11.8 to be confirmed.
