NB with Global Mobile Broadband

HP in collaboration with Cingular Wireless, has launched the "HP Compaq nc6400", the first notebook PC with built-in global mobile broadband capabilities.

The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC features integrated Cingular Wireless UMTS/HSDPA-based technology, which according to HP, allows business professionals to connect in more areas at broadband speeds to corporate networks, email, and the Internet, without being tied to a wireless hotspot.

The notebook would enable customers to enjoy the benefits of mobile broadband - both in the US either with Cingular Wireless BroadbandConnect or high-speed EDGE services, and in over 115 other countries abroad having the availability of UMTS or GPRS/EDGE networks.

UMTS/HSDPA is a global standard, and natural 3G evolutionary path for GSM providers, with 142 UMTS networks, and 72 HSDPA networks currently available world-wide.

HP claims nc6400 to be the first notebook with tri-band UMTS modem supporting data rates of up to 3.6 megabits per second in many countries around the world. The mobile broadband network offers average download speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second, with bursts to more than one megabit per second.

The notebook's design gives customers an option to purchase the nc6400, and later upgrade to the Cingular Wireless' 3G network, by adding an HP Broadband Wireless Module. It comes with integrated high-performance dual-antennae and Cingular Communication Manager to establish a convenient and reliable wireless connection via Cingular's 3G network.

According to Carol Hess-Nickels, Director of Worldwide Business Notebook Marketing, Personal Systems Group, HP, "HP and Cingular Wireless are expanding the boundaries of mobile computing with products like the HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC. By integrating our powerful and innovative computing products with Cingular Wireless' 3G network, we enable our mobile customers to stay connected in more places."

Further, Wireless LAN and Bluetooth wireless technology complement the notebook's convenient mobile broadband technology.

The thin and light nc6400 is Windows Vista-capable. It features a 14.1-inch diagonal wide-screen display, an optional HP Privacy Filter, powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and support for 3D graphics to deliver the optimal balance of connectivity and performance.

Additionally, it features HP Professional Innovations, a suite of hardware features and software solutions that include technologies such as integrated Biometrics and digital accelerometers for enhanced security.

The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC is available in India for an indicative price of around Rs 89,990 plus taxes.
