Mobile entertainment 'to double'

The mobile entertainment market is set to double during the next five years, to $38.1bn (£19.1bn), says a report.

Music will continue to dominate the mobile entertainment market, including ring tones and tracks to download.

However, revenue from TV services is set to grow more dramatically - spurred by events such as the Ashes cricket tour - with big events seen on mobiles.

"Mobile operators are making it easier for consumers to access entertainment," said Informa Telecoms and Media.

Increasingly mobile operators are introducing search tools and personalised portals.

As a result "consumers are becoming more aware of what their handsets are capable of" the report says.

Music and images dominate the market representing 64% of revenues in 2006.

However, images will have fallen to fourth place, behind mobile games and video by 2011, the survey says.
