T-Mobile plans to erect 150-foot cell tower in Perkiomen Township

By Christine Mawhinney Lark

The Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with T-Mobile for the placement of a 150-foot cell tower on township property at 1 Trappe Road.

"Today I sent a few minor changes in," township solicitor Kenneth Picardi said. "The lease is ready to go. It is an option to lease. The lease option terms are renewable every five years. They [T-Mobile] will pay a sum and have the right to enter into a lease with us within a few months."

Township Manager Cecile Daniel said the lease option agreement gives T-Mobile the right to investigate whether it can put a tower in and, if it can, to agree to the lease, which the Board of Supervisors must then approve.

"All they [T-Mobile] need to do now is sign the lease agreement, and then the board has to approve it and sign it," Daniel said. "Once everything is a-pproved, then they can start the installation."

Nicholas Cuce, a representative from T-Mobile, said the company is ready to move forward immediately.

The motion was approved by a 4-1 vote during the Jan. 2 reorganization meeting during which a moment of silence was held to remember U.S. Army Sgt. John T. Bubeck, a Perkiomen Township resident who was killed in the line of duty in Iraq on Dec. 26.

During the reorganization, William Patterson was reappointed chairman of the board and Edward Savitsky was reappointed vice chairman.

The board also approved a 60-day maintenance bond extension for the few remaining items that have not been completed on Cranberry Estates, a development located along Kagey and Wartman roads.

According to Daniel, the maintenance bond cannot be released until the repairs are completed.

"Since the weather has been good, things have gotten done," said Pamela Stevens, township engineer. "It is not of significance but we will have the extension to March 16 in case we need it. It is the same cost for a 30-day or a 60-day extension."

Stevens also reported on the Eagleview Estates maintenance bond, which expires March 6.

"There is good news with this," Stevens said. "The builder hopes to address everything without extending the bond. They are trying to keep ahead of the bond expiration. It has to be on the February agenda if the punch list is not addressed."

The board also decided to check with the township planning commission to see if any of the members would like to go to the annual Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors Convention in Hershey from April 22 to 25, before it chooses who will go.
