Synaptics jumps into Android party; To provide its touch interface driver

Synaptics, a developer of capacitive-based human interface solutions for mobile computing and the company behind the Onyx concept pictured above, announced that it is joining Google’s party with its software driver to enable touch interfaces for the Android SDK. Apparently, handset designers will be provided with a “powerful yet easy-to-use tool to develop advanced, multi-touch gestures for the Android platform.”

Commenting on the announcement, VP of Synaptics Corporate Marketing and Handheld Business Joseph Virginia said: “Our contribution to the Android platform will help bring dynamic touch user interfaces to everyone in the mobile market. By creating an open environment conducive to collaboration and partnering, the Alliance will allow key influencers to deliver innovative devices and services to meet the needs of the fast-changing mobile industry.”

There you have it - Android will be “multi-touch enabled” right from the start. Can’t wait for the first devices…
