HTC Touch2 (T3333) Photos, Specifications: An Affordable Smartphone

Following up on the earlier press announcement, detail specifications and more press photos of the new HTC Touch2 are now available on HTC website. Comes with a 2.8-inch full touch screen with QVGA resolution, the Touch2 was previously leaked as HTC Mega, targetting at entry level users with a cheaper price range. It is also confirmed that the TouchFLO 3D is an updated version for QVGA device, which was also leaked in July as a custom ROM. Check out the full specifications here.

Other than the 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera, the HTC Touch2 should be fit for most of your needs with the built in WiFi, GPS, microSD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack. The smartphone will be available next month in 3 colors option.

T-Mobile Pulse Android Smartphone Announced for UK

Made by HuaWei, T-Mobile Pulse has been announced today and will be available next month in UK. The T-Mobile Pulse is the third Android-based smartphone in T-Mobile’s mobile-device portfolio. In addition, the T-Mobile Pulse is the first Android-based smartphone that supports both the MyCommunity and Media Center services.


Via MyCommunity, users can keep constant track of their contacts and get in touch with any of them by phone call, text message or their on-line community. The Media Center allows user to select personal media content for viewing on their smartphone, computer or TV set via Entertain and for sharing with other people.

The HSPA technology used by the T-Mobile Pulse supports Internet connections of up to 7.2 Mbps downstream and 2 Mbps upstream. The Pulse also comes with a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth and microSD card slot.

Motorola Android Smartphone Called Motorola CLIQ (DEXT) with MOTOBLUR UI

Motorola this week has unveiled its first Android smartphone, the Motorola DEXT or the CLIQ for T-Mobile USA. Like HTC’s Sense UI, Motorola announced its MOTOBLUR, which is exclusively for Motorola’s Android smartphone with tight social network integration. Updates to contacts, posts, messages, photos and more are streamed together and synced from sources including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Gmail, and work and personal e-mail. MOTOBLUR automatically delivers these updates to the home screen in easy-to-view streams so there is no need to open and close different mobile applications to keep up with the latest content.

The CLIQ delivers a reliable mobile Web experience by harnessing the power and speed of T-Mobile’s 3G network and Wi-Fi. LG First Android Smartphone GW620 Announced

LG has just announced its first Android-powered smartphones, the LG GW620. While details specs is still unknown except a 3-inch full touchscreen and slide out QWERTY keyboard, the LG GW620 will also support the social networking sites and to be available in the fourth quarter of this year in select European markets.

“The LG-GW620 will appeal to first-time smartphone customers by offering a new and different kind of user experience,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our objective is to provide a wide selection of smartphones to satisfy the diverse preferences of today’s consumers. This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead.”

In addition to the Android model, LG announced in early September that it will be introducing a minimum of 13 new smartphones over the next 16 months that utilize Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. The newest release, version 6.5, was announced just last week.

Hands-on video of Sony Ericsson's Idou, its first S60/Symbian Foundation smartphone

With the official start of the Mobile World Congress 2009 only hours away, Sony Ericsson announced its Idou smartphone at a press event in Barcelona. We sat down with a few Sony Ericsson execs to talk about the new smartphone, which will be the first device from Sony Ericsson to run on the new Symbian Foundation(INFO) platform. The open-source Symbian Foundation OS is being built upon Nokia's S60(INFO) user interface and the Symbian OS(INFO), and will look very much like the current Nokia S60 5th Edition that runs on the Nokia 5800 XpressMedia, if our sources are to believed.

Since the Idou is a prototype, and doesn't even have an official name yet, we were unable to get video of the smartphone actually powered up. But we did get a chance to play around with the hardware enough to at least be able to imagine what is coming.

For being such early hardware, the Idou felt solidly built. We could see the 12.1 megapixel camera's autofocus lens and Xenon flash, and the signage on the device told us that it will feature DLNA compatible WiFi and GPS as well. The display measures 3.5 inches across and is in a wide screen format, though we don't know what the actual pixel resolution will be.
In terms of the look and feel of the user interface, we can expect it to be fairly true to the stock Symbian Foundation UI, which is expected to look much like S60 5th Edition. Sony Ericsson reps did say that we should expect to see the same kind of Sony Ericsson user experience type apps on the Idou as we see on Sony Ericsson's feature phones and its Xperia X1, though there was no mention specifically of the Xperia panels, which we are not expecting.

We have been told that the full announcement for the Idou, which will contain its final name, full specs, and expected availability date, will come to us by early Summer of 2009. We're looking forward to it. For now, enjoy the photos and the HD video we shot of the device.

Nearly two months after a world wide release, Nokia is all geared up to introduce its Eseries-E63 to U.S. markets. Boasting of a definite edge over other sophisticated messaging devices, this ESERIES mobile is available with no contract required. Well, this phone has an assortment of fairly mind-boggling attributes; certainly deserves a CES exposure.

Review: Nokia E71

The time a business mobile phone was simple and boring is in the past. Business and private are being united. The genuine corporate mobile companies such as the BlackBerry creators, aim more and more at the private user, whilst Samsung and Nokia in turn serve the business user Business cell phones of Samsung are found in the i-series. Nokia serves the business user with their E-series. In addition to a compact slider, the E66, Nokia has introduced the E71. Nokia business phones have a neat design and feature many functionalities. That's the reason more and more private phone users end up going for a mobile phone from the corporate segment.

First impression of the Nokia E71 handset
The Nokia E71 cell phone stands out for its efficient design. The package is carried out in red and white, and the handset is displayed. It's easy to recognize the Nokia E71 by its full QWERTY keyboard, the metal/aluminum coating and the slim design. Standard included together with the Nokia E71 are a battery charger, a headset, a pouch, a software CD and the users guide. The sleek back of the cell phone looks somewhat scratch-prone, however, it doesn't seem too bad, although sticky fingerprints are left behind on it constantly. Other than that, the cell phone has an attractive appearance.

The full keyboard the Nokia E-71 features, is rather small, yet operation is quite easy thanks to the round buttons. It does take time getting used to them, although with a bit of practice you should soon be able to type fast using two fingers. This facilitates sending text messages and e-mails with this phone and makes it more appealing. Thanks to the compact design of the keyboard, the Nokia E71's width has been kept nicely in proportion.

Nokia also chose Symbian as the operating system for the Nokia E71. Usually, this is the standard for the corporate E-series and the popular N-series of Nokia. The version used on the E71 is Symbian S60 3.1 Edition. The disadvantage of Symbian software is that it unfortunately tends to slow down the cell phone, which is what we experienced with the Nokia N96 for example. Surprisingly, the Nokia E71 doesn't suffer from any delay, the mobile phone works fast and smooth.

The menu has become more straightforward and simple when it comes down to graphics, which might be why it is faster. The structure and use of the E71 menu is similar to other Symbian mobile phones. The menu works via clear icons. In addition, installing external software is also enabled. New is the dual desktop; one for business use and one for private use. Backgrounds and shortcuts can be adjusted and added. Pressing the button on the main screen once changes the desktop. A nice addition!

The Nokia E71 supports voice aid. Not only voice dial, as we know from many mobile phones; the E71 offers a fully spoken menu. Recent calls, contacts and, for example, the time are read out loud. This menu is available at instruments and is very convenient for someone that is visually disabled. At the same time however, I doubt whether the Nokia E71 mobile would be a convenient phone for this person.

The Nokia E71 phone features an integrated 3.2 Megapixel digital camera. Furthermore, the mobile phone also has a LED flash at its disposal, to enable shooting pictures in badly lit circumstances. The monitor is quite large and entirely used as viewfinder. The camera is quick in capturing a picture and the application start-up time is fast too. After capturing the picture it is not reproduced completely sharply on the screen which is rather annoying since it makes you think that you failed in capturing the object.

Taking pictures with the Nokia E71

In some cases the pictures turn out well, although certainly not always. If there is insufficient environmental light, the pictures become blurred very fast and they show a lot of digital noise. It is almost impossible, even in close-up mode, to capture an object from close-by. The camera does respond extremely fast, however, it seems like it skips focusing. In case of correct exposure and a larger distance, like a building in broad daylight, the pictures turn out reasonable. The camera leaves a lot to be desired and it is clear the camera did not have priority on this phone.

Besides being a smooth business mobile phone, the Nokia E71 also features various multimedia applications. Media contains Realplayer, the camera, Musicstore, picture gallery, voice recorder and a Flash player. Music and video are perfectly reproduced on the E71. The media player looks fine and neat. The monitor is not that large, but is instead quite wide and this is very convenient for video files, since nowadays many wide screen films are available. The built-in speaker delivers a nice sound however, to fully enjoy your music, you ought to use the included stereo headset.

The internal memory of the Nokia E71 counts 110MB. The memory is expandable with the use of a microSD/SDHC memory card. Standard included is a 2GB memory card offering more room to multimedia files. If 2GB is insufficient, you can purchase a memory card with a larger capacity, since the Nokia E71 supports memory cards up to 8GB. Memory cards are placed on the side of the Nokia E71 which makes it possible to switch the card without having to turn the mobile phone off.

Microsoft Office support
Standard support for Microsoft Office files is not a superfluous luxury on a corporate mobile phone. Quickoffice is found in the menu, with which all Microsoft Office files can be opened or even created. The latter is not the case for all supporting Microsoft Office phones. In addition to Microsoft Office files, the Nokia E71 is also able to display Adobe PDF files. Viewing Excel files actually was the easiest to do. The monitor seems a tad too small for the other documents, which makes you have to scroll the whole time. However, opening and editing your files on the move has been made possible.

The Nokia E71 supports HSDPA and Wi-Fi. This makes Internet available for the user at all times. Thanks to the HSDPA support, exploring the Internet is appealing too whilst on the road, since it offers a reasonable speed providing the network is actually able to handle the speed. The built-in Internet browser works fine, although the wide screen monitor is not always convenient for reproduction of the Internet pages.

Nokia E71 GPS receiver

The built-in GPS receiver in combination with the Nokia Maps application can be used as navigation system. However, this does require purchasing a license beforehand. Finding the required satellites to stipulate the position takes a tad too long at times. Installing a different software program such as TomTom is also possible.

The included 3.7V 1500mAh Lithium Polymer battery is able to last for a maximum of 410 hours standby and a talk-time of 10.5 hours. The standby time exceeded the expectation; I was able to keep the E71 standby for 5 days with average use. This battery is definitely stronger than I am used to from other Nokia mobile phones.

Nokia has included the well-known PC Suite software with the E71. This software offers copying files to and fro the Nokia E71, managing contacts, synchronizing the agenda and making back-ups, thus reducing chances of data loss. It is easy-to-use software, however, nothing new under the sun.

Hands-on with Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 smartphone

Boasting an "arc-slider" design, a QWERTY keypad, and an innovative paneled interface, Sony Ericsson's first stab at a Windows Mobile smartphone looks like a winner, give or take a few rough edges. Check out my hands-on impressions from Vegas.



The Xperia X1 was a big hit at last month's World Mobile Congress event in Barcelona, but apparently it spent its moment in the spotlight stuck in a glass case. This week, Sony Ericsson reps were finally ready to air out the X1 during CTIA, and I got a chance to give the sleek handset the once-over.

First impressions: The phone itself is beautifully constructed, what with its black, brushed-metal back panel and silver keypad, and the handset slides open with a solid, spring-y action.
The Xperia's "arc" design leaves the display at the perfect angle while you're typing.That said, the Xperia is not a small phone. The handset weighs well over five ounces, and at 4.3 by 2.1 by 0.65 inches, it's no svelte iPhone (although, to be fair, it's not a monster like the Nokia E90).

Also, about the metal QWERTY keypad: It's gorgeous, all right, but during my brief testing, the keys felt a bit small and slippery to my fingertips. It could be something that you'd get used to over time, but it's worth noting.

Back on the plus side, the wide, three-inch WVGA display looks great, and the phone itself runs the professional version of Windows Mobile (yes, it'll be the newly announced version 6.1), complete with a stylus. There's also a four-way navigational keypad and an "optical" joystick—a little nub that you swipe up, down and across for scrolling through menus and Web pages.

One of the most intriguing features about the Xperia are the nine "panels" that sit on the phone's main screen. The panels can be just about anything—Web pages, widgets, applications—and tapping one of them brings it to the fore. One panel that the Sony Ericsson folks were particularly proud of looked like a blank desktop save for a few colored fish and a digital clock.

Tap and hold the screen and the fish flock to your finger; tap repeatedly and the fish scatter. If your battery's getting low, one of the fish starts to turn red, while another fish turns yellow if you miss a call. Cool.

My Sony Ericsson rep said that the company's looking to developers to build even more panels, which can be displayed nine at a time or splayed out like a deck of cards.

Running beneath the panels is, of course, the pro version of Windows Mobile, which boasts your standard lineup of mobile Office, PIM and media apps. Unfortunately, the OS was running excruciatingly slow on the Xperia I saw; the reps assured me that the Xperia software will be tight as a drum by the time it ships. Let's hope so.

The Xperia doesn't disappoint when it comes to connectivity—full-on HSDPA access (yes, even here in the States), Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Also on board is a 3.2MP camera with touch auto-focus (just touch the viewfinder to pick a focal point—nice!) and AGPS navigation.

So, when's the Xperia going to arrive? I'm told it'll be here in the second half of the year, quite possibly with a carrier (AT&T is my guess, although Sony Ericsson would only say that talks are "underway" with carriers unnamed). No details on pricing either, but from what I've seen…we could be talking upwards of $350 or more, even with carrier subsidies. Stay tuned.

Sprint Samsung Ace Smartphone Hands On

I just received the Samsung Ace from Sprint today for review. Before I delve into my testing, there are things that just have to be done 1st. The 1st is photos and video of the device. While I finish off the video, I thought I would share a few photos to get us started.

The Samsung Ace is available right now from Sprint. After rebates and such, you can get out the door with a 2 year contract for $200. The Samsung Ace is very similar to the BlackJack II, which was released on the AT&T network. The cool thing about the Ace is that it’s a “World Phone”. It operates both CDMA in the USA and GSM overseas using a Sim Card. Yes, I tried my AT&T Sim and it didn’t work.
