Digital Chocolate to publish Mobile Games for the Nokia N-Gage Platform

Nokia has sent in word that California-based mobile games developer Digital Chocolate will be publishing a wide range of titles exclusively for the Nokia N-Gage platform that is slated for launch this fall.

Digital Chocolate is one of the leading mobile game developers and is known for delivering original as well as high quality games with intuitive features and entertaining content.

The company’s latest game series for the N-Gage platform is called ‘DChoc Café’. This game series merges the most popular and accessible casual games with the next generation of social gaming on mobile platforms.]

DChoc Café for the N-Gage platform is basically a virtual café that features casual card, board and puzzle games that you would usually see in your neighborhood café.

Besides offering games, DChoc Café also offers users the chance to remain connected with friends through mobile gaming whenever they want.

Other features in DChoc Café allow players to create customized characters, earn prizes and make game recommendations.

Greg Sauter, Nokia’s director of third party publishing said: Digital Chocolate has been a driving force in promoting social interaction within the contest of mobile gaming. They are also an award winning publisher dedicated to bringing innovative games to the masses. It is these qualities that make Digital Chocolate a perfect fit for our N-Gage offering, which allows publishers to innovate with respect to quality, ease of use and community interaction.”

And, here is what Gary Schofield, president of networks, Digital Chocolate had to say: “DChoc Café is a perfect complement to the Nokia’s next generation N-Gage platform. N-Gage provides the tools we need to tap into the powerful device performance and promote social interaction between players through games, which is completely in line with Digital Chocolate’s philosophy.
We’re very pleased to be teaming up with Nokia.”

Nokia's N-Gage coming to PCs

When you hear the word N-Gage, you probably get weird, grossed-out feelings and maybe a little stabbing pain in your side, right?

Well, Nokia is attempting to make the transition from the N-Gage as a handheld gaming device (and a bit of a failed one at that), to N-Gage as a standalone game platform -- one which can be implemented on the PC as well as other mobile systems.

The company is currently in the thick of development on a top-secret title known as "Project White Rock", which will be the first bound for the PC.

The game is being developed by RedLynx (creators of popular handheld fare like "Pathways to Glory"), and produced by Scott Foe, who's known for his work on the first mobile MMOG "Pocket Kingdom: Own the World".

According to reports, the game contains over a thousand lines of recorded dialogue, though sources say the game-play experience will be largely the same on both the PC and handheld platforms.

Whatever the case may be, the few glimpses we've seen of the "next generation" N-Gage look pretty promising, and this scheme may just be the shot in the arm Nokia's gaming division is looking for.

Nokia targets multi-platform games development

'Project White Rock' to target PCs and mobile devices

Pocket Gamer reports that Nokia is developing a cross-platform project aimed at both the next-generation N-Gage platform and PCs.

The game, tentatively known as ‘Project White Rock’, is being developed by RedLynx, developers of the critically lauded Pathway To Glory. Overseeing the project is Nokia’s Scott Foe, who worked on the world’s first massively-multiplayer online mobile game Pocket Kingdom: Own the World.

Little is known about the game, with the exception that it contains over a thousand lines of recorded dialogue and utilises SNAP technology to allow game devices to connect to PCs. Pocket Gamer are also reporting that the PC version will run at the same resolution to its mobile counterpart, leading to speculation that the two will be visually similar.

This is the first time Nokia has participated in a multi-platform project, and may hint towards a closer emphasis on dual-platform content for the future.

Nokia set to test next N-Gage

Nokia keeps pursuing the mobile gaming marketlo
submitted by palmso

The N-Gage Nokia gaming platform never really took off, as foreshadowed on launch day in 2003 (check out the Chief Geek's coverage). Nokia tried again with the Nokia N-Gage QD (see our coverage, but again it just didn't really take off.

In 2005, Nokia apparently admitted the N-Gage was a failure, but it must be someone's pet project because we just received a press release stating that a Finnish company named Elisa will be carrying out intensive tests and evaluations in a live network environment for the next generation N-Gage mobile gaming device.

The project is scheduled to run from February until mid-2007.Can this next N-Gage device succeed in today's market, or should we just let this dog lie?
